A Sparkling Day at Veuve Clicquot: Underground Cellars & A Chic Café Lunch

No trip to France is complete without indulging in a little champagne, and our visit to the Veuve Clicquot underground cellars was the ultimate way to experience one of the world’s most iconic bubbly brands. From exploring the historic chalk caves to savoring lunch at their outdoor café, the day was nothing short of spectacular.

Exploring the Legendary Veuve Clicquot Cellars

Stepping into the underground cellars of Veuve Clicquot felt like entering a different world. These ancient chalk caves, carved deep beneath the surface, have been used to age champagne for centuries. The cool, dimly lit tunnels were lined with endless stacks of bottles, each patiently waiting for its moment to shine.

Our guide led us through the maze of history, sharing fascinating stories about Madame Clicquot—the bold and visionary woman who revolutionized champagne-making in the early 1800s. We learned about the riddling process (a technique she pioneered to create crystal-clear champagne) and the meticulous craftsmanship that goes into every bottle.

Of course, no tour would be complete without a tasting session, where we sipped on some of Veuve Clicquot’s finest vintages. Each glass was a perfect balance of elegance and effervescence, making it all too easy to fall in love with the signature Yellow Label all over again.

A Chic Lunch at the Veuve Clicquot Café

After our underground adventure, we made our way to the Veuve Clicquot café, where champagne flowed freely on one of the most gorgeous days of our trip (not a cloud in sight)!

We indulged burgers and bubbly - trust me, it was the right call! The burger actually paired so well with Veuve’s signature champagnes.

Sitting back with a final glass, we couldn’t help but toast to an unforgettable experience—one that blended history, luxury, and, of course, a little bit of sparkle.

Final Thoughts

Whether you’re a casual champagne lover or a full-fledged connoisseur, a visit to the Veuve Clicquot underground cellars is an absolute must when in France. Between the rich history, stunning cellars, and exquisite tastings, it’s an experience that lingers long after the last sip.

And if you have the chance, don’t skip the café lunch—because what better way to end a champagne-filled day than with the perfect l meal?

Santé! 🥂
