For our 20th wedding anniversary, we set our sights on Napa Valley, where romance meets refinement in every sip. Among the many celebrated wineries in the region, Sterling Vineyards stood out—not just for its sweeping views and iconic gondola ride, but for the experience it promised. While our visit didn’t go exactly as planned due to a surprise power outage that halted the gondolas, the day still turned out to be beautifully memorable—true to the spirit of our milestone.
Instead of the signature aerial tram, Sterling graciously accommodated us with a scenic shuttle ride up to the hilltop estate. Though we missed the gondola’s panoramic journey, the hospitality and views that greeted us at the top more than made up for it.
We embarked on a self-guided 5-wine tasting tour, thoughtfully designed with informative stops along the way. Each station gave us insight into a different aspect of the winemaking process—from the nuances of grape harvesting to the complexities of fermentation and bottling. It was immersive, educational, and perfectly paced for a leisurely afternoon of celebration.
The wines, of course, were the highlight. Each pour was a reflection of Napa’s rich terroir and Sterling’s craftsmanship. We found ourselves lingering at each tasting stop, not just to savor the wine, but to soak in the moment—and each other.
As a lovely surprise, Sterling extended a generous 50% military discount on our admission and 20% off gift shop merchandise. It was a thoughtful gesture that made our visit feel even more special and appreciated.
